Fund Raising

In order to carry out the wide range of community service projects that it does, the Club has a number of fund raisers the it undertakes.

Long running fund raising events include the world's largest Bed Race, the Bon Appetit Silent Auction, the Charity Golf tournament, Shred-it Day, Partners in Caring game with the Ottawa Senators and TV Bingo.

The Club has also organizes one time events based on local happenings including the Max Keeping Roast and the Grey Cup Party.

The Club also has the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Legacy Foundation and the Kiwanis Medical Foundation which provide for long term funding of projects.

The Accora Village Bed Race for Kiwanis

Imagine 50 teams racing over the frozen water of Dows Lake during a cold weekend in February, pushing a souped up bed with bicycle wheels, trying to find the fastest team, or the best decorated. You then have the Accora Village Bed Race for Kiwanis presented by Allstream.

The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa took over the Bed Race as part of Winterlude in 2003, and the event has become one of the high profile events of the three week winter festival. The event raises about $40,000 each year for the Club towards its Community Service Projects.

More information on the Bed Race is available here.

The One Can Make A Difference
Charity Golf Tournament

Since the  first Kiwanis Charity Golf Tournament in 1998 the tournament has raised nearly $1,150,000. All of the net proceeds will be distributed to the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa’s charitable organization with a focus on youth homelessness in Ottawa, a growing and disturbing trend. The Kiwanis Club of Ottawa has made it a major focus to work with key stakeholders that provide support and housing for Ottawa’s most vulnerable homeless population.

The tournament day includes a delicious lunch and dinner, 9 holes of golf on a championship course, awards, prizes and an outstanding silent auction. During the tournament golfers have four opportunities for a cash hole-in-one prize and at the end of the day players will gather for a beautiful outdoor cocktail party with the possibility of participating in the putting contest.

More information about the tournament is available here.

Watch-it, Shred-it Day

The annual 'Watch-it, Shred-it!' day allows the general public to securely shred personal documents with the help of Shred-it, a Corporate Member of the Club. Each year, about 300 people bring in their documents, and over $5,000 is raised for the Kiwanis Xmas Basket Program.

The project has been running since 2009, and you can find more information here.

Kiwanis TV Bingo

The Kiwanis TV Bingo has become the largest fund raiser for the Club, and with the help of Rogers TV, the Ottawa Sun and Mac's Milk will raise over $200,000 each year for our Community Service Projects.

The project began in 2011, and more information is available on the Bingo's Web Site, and on this site.
