In 1999 Les Morin and Lt. Governor Sam Bhargava introduced Bill to our Club.
Much of his time was devoted to our sponsored youth Circle K Committee, and providing mentorship. He and his wife, Joanne Mazerolle started the Mazerolle-Gosewitz-Wood Kiwanis Circle K Endowment Fund, which provides direct benefits to University students, in the way of scholarships.
An ardent golfer, he is a regular member of our Charity Golf Tournament Committee and contributes to their committee meetings. He always enters a team and often contributes to the auction. He is a regular participant in most of our club projects and contributes to all of our fundraisers.
When he became our 90th Club President on October 1, 2008, he was aware of the job ahead of him, and he had many ideas…
- We remember he started giving away cookies – Oreos – just because they are his favorite. A simple idea and one that helped us share some fun and laughter.
- Then he shared his personal motto with us and it was the Theme of his year - “PAY IT FORWARD”. As he stated when he was our guest speaker two years ago, “Think of a way that you can help another person, or two, or three.” He is always thinking
- Then he gave us a challenge to raise a total of $90,000 with the Bedzzz Race fundraiser or he would shave his head.
With the help of Dr. Kanta Marwah, the Kiwanis Medical Foundation and the members of this club, we met his challenge. And he shaved his head, like promised. $50,000 of that was matched by Carleton University for $100,000 to establish the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa Medical Foundation and Dr. Kanta Marwah Scholarship in Medical Physics, at Carleton. One of our club legacies – one of Bill’s ideas…
Like many Past Presidents of our club, he is still engaged, and has proven to us that his commitment continues even after his presidency.
He works tirelessly with the organizing team to organize our Christmas Food Basket program, and participates in every stage of it, organizing the food, packing the boxes, picking up supplies and volunteers, and delivering the food. He also works hard collecting donations and gets many of his business associates to contribute each year to the tune of about $2000.
He was Lt Governor in 2010-11 and was a great ambassador for Kiwanis. He has also started a new Satellite Kiwanis Club with the Kiwanis Club of Bytown and organizes their meetings.
Bill, we thank you for your commitment, for providing us with some entertainment and challenges, and for keeping Kiwanis on your front burner.
We commend Bill for all of the hard work that he has done for our Club and other Kiwanis Clubs, and on behalf of the members of our club, President Alison presented Bill with this week’s President’s Rose. BILL, YOU HAVE DEFINITELY MADE A DIFFERENCE
